1989 polo stereo

Hi can anybody help me i have a 1989 vw polo and im trying to install a new cd player and when it come to taking out the old one i come across the old wiring.
I dont know how to install the new stereo harness as the car only has 3 wires for the stereo left speaker,right speaker and 12v.

Any suggestions on how to install this new stereo.

Your 1989 Polo should have had an ISO connector - 1 Brown plug and 1 Black Plug - have these been chopped off by a previous owner?

If so, you will probably need to get a new iso connector to bare ends and wire it in.  There is no switched power on the Polo (unless you tap into the 'X' line) so you can join the switch and permanent feeds to the radio together.

Thanks for that but what would you class as the 'x' line and where could i get some diagrams for this as im a usless stereo fitter.

Have you got a haynes manual for a Mk2 Polo (the green covered one)  It has all the wiring diagrams in it.

From memory it is the black wire with yellow stripe, but you need to confirm it with the diagrams.
